Valet Stand

The heavily cycled areas of Bucktown, Wicker Park, Ukrainian Village, West Town, et. al. are also becoming home to a profusion of restaurants fancy enough to sponsor valet parking.  The operators of these stands work hard and are not necessarily to blame for the tumult that can attend a valet stand, but like buses and cabs, valet driven cars are quick becoming the cause of much consternation and, often, cause chicago bike accident.

The Municipal Code of Chicago bans car traffic from impeding the bike lanes, but, of course, the operation of a valet stand often necessitates temporary standing and this usually occurs in the bike lane.  This requires cyclists to travel, however briefly, in the automobile lane and, with another variable, can lead to a chicago bike injury.

Should you suffer injury at the hand of a valet stand, it may be possible to obtain damages from the operator of the valet stand and the restaurant it serves.  Should you suffer such an injury, contact a chicago bike injury attorney.

Chicago bike sharing arrives | News | Chicago Journal

Chicago cyclists and Chicago bike accident attorney applaud the City’s effort to offer tourists and other irregulars the opportunity to see Chicago through its bike lanes.  As reported, 100 bikes are available for rent for those without regular access to a bike or those joggers who wandered too far afield.  The program is in its infancy, but should/could morph permit Chicago to avail itself of additional revenues earned upon the huge uptick in bicycle traffic and further alleviate its suffered public transportation sector.  The bikes themselves are relatively odd looking and appear clunky, but the are therefore easily identifiable and therefore probably not worth stealing.  At first glimpse, it does not appear as if helmets are included with the rentals, but what that could mean for the sudden need for a Chicago bike injury attorney will be offset by a reduced exchange of messy head sweat.

Cycling Joins Soccer As Feared Euro-Communist Activity

Dan Maes, the Tea Party candidate described, somehow, as the more classically Republican candidate in the race for the governor’s office in Colorado, recognizes the City of Denver’s bike sharing program as a United Nations plot to control American cities.  Good Denveronians drive cars, walk, crawl, and ski to work, but they do not ride bicycles — that’s for the crazy Dutch and their fancy, internationalist Hague tribunals.

Chicago cyclists, thankfully controlled by the Chicago democratic machine, will likely fail to have the opportunity to cast their vote for a similar lunatic, and will only have to concern themselves with the usual litany of unenforced bike laws and harried drivers and the ensuing chicago bike injury.

Bike Lane Not Necessary

While it is certainly preferable for cyclists to use roadways with marked bike lanes to avoid a Chicago bike accident, bikes are permitted to ride along all City streets with the obvious exception of Lake Shore Drive and expressways.  The City of Chicago publishes a fairly easy to use bike map that can aid cyclists in planning their routes.  As Chicago cyclists become more accustomed to their routes, the existence of streets Chicago bike lanes will become easier to recall.   While marked bike lanes are preferred, bike commuters need may lawfully use streets without bike lanes.  Following a collision that caused a Chicago bike injury, the offending driver told the sufferer of the bike injury that he was not at fault because the cyclist was not on a marked bike lane.  The driver’s statement was incorrect, which he will discover when he meets the Chicago bike lawyer.

Dooring Law

According to the Chicago Bike Law, drivers who open their car door and strike a cyclist or cause a biker to swerve into traffic face fines and penalties.

Chicago bike injury can because when drivers fail to obey the following law:

“No person shall open the door of a vehicle on the side available to moving traffic unless and until it is reasonably safe to do so, and can be done without interfering with the movement of other traffic, nor shall any person leave a door open on the side of a vehicle available to moving traffic for a period of time longer than necessary to load or unload passengers.”

While this law, like many effecting Chicago cyclists, goes largely unenforced, the City of Chicago and should consider making dooring that causes a dooring injury a strict liability offense.  Because of the severity of bike accident injury that can occur as a result of a carelessly opened door, there should be no excuse and no amount of care that excuses striking a cyclist with a door.

It’s Not Just Automobile Drivers

The Chicago lakefront path is a beautiful and scenic environment to spend a day on a bike.  With this offering comes the obvious peril.  There are many different forms in which to enjoy the lakefront path.  Joggers, walkers, children, those with pets, and cyclists all make use of the path.  Areas of the path that abut beaches and greenways are home to families settling in to barbecue and other recreationlists.  Similarly, there are many different classes of Chicago cyclists.  From the casual commuter to the spandex clad training team, the variation of speed along the path can be drastic.  Certain pedestrians walk side-by-side, and rollerbladers, of necessity, must kick their legs out horizontally to gain speed.  Around 31st Street and it playground, children wander away from their parents and cross the path without recognizing the potential perils. As a result of the multiple and variegated forms of traffic Chicago bike accidents are frequent on the lakefront path and can lead to a Chicago bike injury.  Problematically, these bike injuries, unlike those Chicago bike injuries that occur on Chicago streets, are not caused by vehicle drivers and there is generally no insurance available to pay the injured cyclist or injured bike rider for his or her losses.

Enforcement of Chicago Bike Law

Chicago bike accidents are occurring with great frequency this summer and any cyclist can recount stories of near collisions that could lead to Chicago bike injuries.  Enforcement of bicycle safety law has ranged between lax and nonexistent.  Chicago cyclists ignore traffic signals and Chicago drivers have no qualms about stopping in Chicago bike lanes.  With the proliferation of Chicago police officers patrolling on bicycles, the City authorities should be well-aware of the number of traffic infractions and the potential to cause a Chicago bike accident.  Users of Chicago streets must determine whether to allow the current system to remain in place or to begin enforcing the Chicago bike law.  On a busy weekend night valets constantly cause sudden and unexpected obstacles to bike traffic and can result in bike injury.

Passenger Car Door

Chicago bicycle accident attorney Loberg Stevens LLC represents a client who was struck by a car door as opened by a taxicab passenger who failed to watch for bike traffic.  Oddly, the Chicago bike accident, commonly known as a “dooring” occurred when a car door opened to the cyclist’s left.  Generally, cyclists are on high alert for doors opening on his or her right — where parked cars lurk.  In this instance, vehicle traffic was heavy and the occupants of the taxicab decided to leave the cab while it was waiting in traffic.  Taxicab drivers are required to pull fully to the right hand side of the road to discharge passengers and this particular driver’s failure to do so was the cause of the Chicago bicycle injury. Cyclists on busy Chicago streets should be aware that car doors can open without warning from either side when vehicle traffic is stopped and pay extra attention to taxicabs to avoid a bicycle injury.  Loberg Stevens will bring a bicycle accident lawsuit on behalf of the injured rider.
